Constitution For American Hotel & Lodging Association Student Chapter

 

ARTICLE 1 - NAME

The name of this organization shall be UNLV American Hotel & Lodging Association.

 

ARTICLE 2 - MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of UNLV American Hotel & Lodging Association is to shape the leaders of tomorrow by

exposing students to the hospitality industry. UNLV American Hotel & Lodging Association will provide

members with beneficial experiences that will further their education. UNLV American Hotel & Lodging

Association will administer leadership opportunities, industry specific events and continuing education

courses. The UNLV American Hotel & Lodging Association shall accomplish this by using dedication,

energy and creativity to create the best possible experience for all it’s members.

 

ARTICLE 3 - NON DISCRIMINATION CLAUSE

 This organization shall not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, age, color, religion, national

orientation, sexual orientation, sex, veteran status or disability.

 

ARTICLE 4 - MEMBERSHIP

Memberships shall consist of UNLV undergraduate and graduate students.

 

UNLV American Hotel & Lodging Association shall charge $45/year for membership. The

funds shall go directly to our National chapter (American Hotel & Lodging Association). These

funds will support, professional development, networking events, and access to all AH&LA

benefits.

 

ARTICLE 5 - EXECUTIVE BOARD

The UNLV American Hotel & Lodging Association shall be governed by the following positions:

  1. President

  2. Vice President

  3. Secretary

  4. Treasurer

  5. Event Director

  6. Marketing Director

 

In accordance to UNLV the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer must have appointed

members to run a student chapter. In the absence of Event Director and Marketing Director another

position shall fill in their responsibilities. Each position has a one year term starting from the semester he/

she was elected.

 

ARTICLE 5A - APPOINTMENT AND CREATION/DISSOLUTION OF POSITIONS

Appointment of positions will take place every spring semester by the current Executive Board. Current

Executive Board members will be able to automatically renew their position unless placed for terms of

removal (See Article 5B). The Executive Board will chose candidates based off of resume and cover

letter. If disputes between the Executive Board, optional interviews may take place. In the case of a

vacant or the creation of any position, complete the same process within 30 days.

 

ARTICLE 5B - REMOVAL

Existing Executive Board members may be removed form position at any time by majority vote, Faculty

Adviser will vote in the case of a tie. Cause for removal are the following:

•  Absence of 3 executive meetings in one semester

•  Failure to adhere to responsibilities (See Article 5)

•  Obtaining a GPA bellow 2.0

•  Partaking in Academic Misconduct as determined by UNLV

 

ARTICLE 6 - BYLAWS

The Executive Board is responsible for holding one Executive Board meeting at least every two months

and one member event every month. A member event can be in the form of a member meeting, property

tour, guest speaker event or networking event. These events may be held in conjunction or at separate

times.
